Case Study: Revolutionising Immersive Technology for Education and Training

Imersifi are a talented team of developers based in Swansea, Wales, made up of Swansea University graduates Jack Bengeyfield and Joe Charman.

7.5m jobs are expected to be enhanced by Virtual Reality (VR) by 2025, with an expected $294bn boost to global GDP from immersive tech by 2030.

By harnessing the latest immersive technology opportunities, Imersifi creates custom applications that engage users in innovative ways. They are supporting users to interact and engage within the worlds of immersive gaming, training and education.

The team are developing cutting-edge immersive software to deliver exceptional virtual and augmented reality applications. As the only studio in Wales with team members qualified to their level, Imersifi are leaders of Virtual Reality technology and tailor applications to each business needs.

The company’s applications allow for the simulation of any environment or scenario, providing limitless possibilities for learning and development as well as educational experiences. They continually work with organisations across sectors such as Engineering, Healthcare, Health & Safety and Entertainment.

Imersifi recently moved on-site into an office at Swansea University’s Singleton Campus. The office was previously within Swansea City Centre, but Jack and Joe soon realised that being on-campus was the perfect place to develop projects with the University.

In the last year the team has worked on a large healthcare project with Swansea University’s Simulation Centre. They collaborated to develop virtual simulations of patients for a variety of healthcare scenarios, and they are working on a project with the University’s Centre for Integrative Semiconductor Materials to provide training and career awareness. They also have some exciting future projects in the pipeline with the Institute of Life Science!

Imersifi has a custom-developed immersive framework, allowing for consistency, integration of the latest technology, and fast prototyping. Every immersive experience is built with a wide range of innovative features to deliver the best possible immersive experiences across industries.

Working with the University and being located on campus adds great benefit to the team at Imersifi. We regularly meet with academics and get the chance to showcase our technology to a wider audience. It also makes the technology more accessible to students, so we can develop and deploy educational experiences to courses more efficiently.” – Joe Charman, Co-Founder of Imersifi

Immersive technology, encompassing VR and Mixed Reality, when applied correctly is a powerful tool for educating. With the team’s skillset, they were in a position to build advanced software that could immerse users and students into different worlds, presenting learning materials in a new medium. This inspired Jack and Joe to create Imersifi and build a team, hiring fellow Swansea University alumni and a yearly internship also allows them to grow the presence of immersive technology within the University and beyond.

Over the next few years, the team aims to continue its work with academics to explore applications of their groundbreaking technology. They will also continue to increase adoption of immersive technology and showcase the benefits for future education and training.
