Case Study: Accelerating Innovation with Pentre Awel

Since April 2024, the Accelerate Healthcare Technology Centre has been actively engaged with the Pentre Awel project, a groundbreaking initiative in collaboration with Swansea University. This partnership has brought together expertise from both institutions with combined efforts focussing on fostering innovation, business engagement, and collaborative opportunities within the region.

The teams have maintained a dynamic and structured approach, meeting regularly to discuss business engagement strategies. Their proactive involvement has extended to a range of high-profile events, including It’s Your Carmarthenshire, MediWales Connects, and The Welsh Business Show, where they have successfully showcased the potential of Pentre Awel to a diverse audience.

A key outcome of this collaboration has been the establishment of valuable connections with potential business partners such as Lazarus Bio, Simbec-Orion, Synexus, and Biodexa. These engagements have facilitated discussions on commercial partnerships, innovation-led opportunities, and knowledge exchange initiatives. Furthermore, the teams have jointly presented at major forums like Unleashing Innovation and the Business Growth and Innovation forum, enhancing the visibility of Pentre Awel and ensuring its offering reaches a wider Carmarthenshire audience.

The partnership continues to evolve, with ongoing support including continued participation in fortnightly sub-group meetings and monthly in-person team sessions. These engagements are pivotal in identifying and capitalising on new business opportunities for Pentre Awel. Additionally, discussions are progressing regarding the potential integration of the MySparc App into both institutions, which could further enhance collaboration and engagement.

Peredur Emlyn from Pentre Awel highlighted the impact of this partnership, stating, “Our work with Accelerate has significantly advanced the Pentre Awel project, driving innovation and fostering valuable business connections that enhance our overall mission.”

Zoe Coombes from Swansea University echoed this sentiment, remarking, “Collaborating with Pentre Awel has opened new avenues for innovation and business growth, benefiting both our institutions and the wider community.”

The Pentre Awel and Swansea University collaboration continues to thrive, demonstrating the power of strategic partnerships in accelerating innovation and business growth within the health and sport sectors.
