Hospital-acquired infections can significantly impact patients by worsening their existing health conditions and prolonging their stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Early trials at Morriston Hospital suggest that applying a special antimicrobial coating across an entire ward, combined with air purifiers that help remove bacteria from the air, may have contributed to a reduction in infections over a ten-month period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To ensure this approach is both effective and safe, researchers now need to conduct a full clinical trial. The goal is to confirm whether this method can successfully lower infection rates and help patients recover on time without complications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who Can Get Involved?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No specific experience is needed, but the following would be beneficial:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Personal experience of acquiring an infection while in hospital<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An interest in healthcare and infection prevention<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Will I Be Asked to Do?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are two ways to participate:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Role One:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Attend up to five online meetings (each lasting 1.5 hours, held monthly)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Join two in-person workshops in Swansea<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contribute to discussions on trial design and how patients might feel about the study<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Role Two:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Attend two in-person workshops to provide feedback on the study\u2019s design<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Are the Benefits?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Collaborate with researchers and other public representatives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Help shape a clinical trial that could improve hospital safety<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Potential opportunity to join the full trial management group if the study is funded<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Support Available<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A designated contact person for informal training and support, available before and after meetings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reimbursement for reasonable travel expenses and additional carer or childcare costs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Payment of \u00a325.00 per hour for participation (those receiving state benefits can request a lower rate)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For more details, please refer to the guidelines.
