{"id":4242,"date":"2024-03-16T09:24:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-16T09:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nish.wales\/?p=4242"},"modified":"2026-03-16T09:30:04","modified_gmt":"2026-03-16T09:30:04","slug":"case-study-swansea-university-partnership-develops-new-micro-needle-applicator","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nish.wales\/en\/2024\/03\/16\/case-study-swansea-university-partnership-develops-new-micro-needle-applicator\/","title":{"rendered":"Case Study: Swansea University partnership develops new micro needle applicator"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.innoture.co\">Innoture<\/a> holds worldwide patents in the manufacture of microneedle patches, the only company that has increased the mass production of flexible base&nbsp;patches worldwide.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Innoture Ltd&nbsp;customise&nbsp;the design and manufacture&nbsp;a microneedle platform technology through 3D precision printing by altering their height, width, materials and sharpness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As\u00a0the result of a successful, long-standing relationship, Innoture Ltd\u00a0is currently\u00a0a tenant at\u00a0Swansea University&#8217;s Institute of Life Sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Swansea University&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swansea.ac.uk\/medicine\/enterprise-and-innovation\/business-support-projects\/accelerate-healthcare-technology-centre\/\">Healthcare Technology Centre<\/a> supported\u00a0research to standardise the application of the micro needle product\u00a0that is essential for adoption; followed by prototype ideas as the company is challenged with no in-house capabilities.\u00a0This was addressed using knowledge transfer to increase the companies capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The collaboration was also able to find a research partner in close proximity, which allowed for joint prototype development and cost effectiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ionut Ichim, Senior Scientist, Innoture:<\/strong> <em>\u201cWe have been based in the incubation space in Swansea University for a few years and the support has got the company to where it is today.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>There was a critical aspect of our product development where no in-house skills were available. We required an investigation into the physics and application to a human for our device to be standardised. New data could then be generated to ascertain the optimum speed and force when administering the device.
